Chili's Licensed to Grill

Arghh... think I just heard a snapping sound coming from the back of my shirt. Oh well, it's kind of expected since I've been doing nothing but eating or doing something related to eating recently. There goes my resolution for a healthier diet. So I figured might as well get something out of it by blogging hence the title. After craving for so long, since my friends first recommended it to me in Selangor, I was thrilled that the franchise was brought to Penang. Gurney Plaza to be exact. I know you'd think that I'd be giving this restaurant a good review since I've been bugging lots of people to go dine here with me but sad to say, it was kind of a let down. Maybe it's because I was expecting too much since I was generally receiving good reviews from my fellow classmates on this place or maybe the Chili's in Selangor are of different standard but then again it's a franchise, I think it should taste the same anywhere.

Sorry for the blured picture... it was fine before I transfered it into my lappy

So, back to Chili's at Gurney Plaza. As we took a look at their menu, we as in Nick, Alan and I, we decided that we would share two main course and a drink. A drink? Yes, a drink. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a cheapskate but to spend RM 7 something without tax on an ice lemon tea in a family retaurant is absurd! Well, to be fair, you actually get to refill "selected" drinks if you are not sharing. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of silly rule is that? I mean I get it that it's some kind of marketing strategy but come on! The biggest mistake is to tell your guess what they can or can't do with their food... or drinks! That's rule number one. Rule number two would be, do not stare at the guest as if they are going to sprint off without paying as soon as you look somewhere else! Guess what? They were guilty of that too. Well, on a brighter note, the atmosphere was kind of okay. It has a bar like feel just that it's brighter instead of that usual dark and gloomy.

Love what they did to the tables... crafted tiles

Prices for main course ranges from around RM20 something to RM30 something in general. This, in my opinion is a little bit on top of the roof especially in Penang where good foods are available in cheap and abundance. Well, about the food, it wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either. I'm sure that those of you who had been there would agree with me that the side dishes actually tastes better than the main course itself.

Both chicken dishes... and the desserts which were too expensive for our tastebuds

Down to the very last bite...

Dissatisfied customer...

Basically that was my review on the restaurant, feel free to leave any comments if you have anything to add or differ. As for myself, it's time for another round of food hunting...

TRANSFORMERS by Michael Bay

Posted by Ivan Lee On 9:13 AM 3 comments

Yes, that’s what all the hype’s about this few days… “Transfomers, more than meets the eyes… Transfromers, robots in disguise…” It’s driving me nuts! I even did my homework on it can you believe it? Apparently, I’ve forgotten nearly everything about this childhood cartoon that I used to watch with my brother. After some research, thanks to the ingenious creation of Wikipedia, I felt at least I’ve done my part before watching the movie. After all, the director himself, Michael Bay, went to a “Transformers School” before deciding to take up the movie but not before turning it down first. His reason? It's a "stupid toy movie". I guess Hasbro manage to knock some sense into him.

Look at the size of that package... I mean robot.

So as I’m sitting here blogging and eagerly waiting for the premier of the show, which by the way is tomorrow, all sorts of question is running through my head. How many types of transformers are going to be featured in this movie? Will good triumph over evil? (Oh, who am I kidding, they always do) How’s the ending like? (Yes, unlike most of you, I have this weird habit of wanting to know the ending to a show before watching it) Will Starscream betray Megatron? Perhaps the biggest question would be, what the heck does Optimus Prime have to do with Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh?

...Optimus Prime

Eeyore...

...they both share a same voice!

Unbelievably true! The source of their voice... a man name Peter Cullen. Makes me wonder if Eeyore has anything to do with Beast Wars? Hmm... maybe not. Anyways, it's time for me to sign off. Leaving you with the words of Optimus Prime "Autobots, transform and rollout...

Mundane Monday

Mundane Monday... goes the song. Well I'm glad that my Monday wasn't exactly mundane. After waking up at about 3.30pm, yes PM, I took off to Alan's. After a long hiatus, I finally had the chance to meet her royal highness. Guess what we did? We cooked! Well, it wasn't like we plan to do it, so happens that her royal highness needs a maid to cook for dinner and I was there. Damn, should have charged for my services. So, does that mean I was a slave since I did it for free? Lol... just kidding, it was fun and I did at my own free will. It has been a long time since I let my hair down and just enjoy doing what I love... cooking. So in the spirit of simplicity, or rather because we had limited raw materials, we decided to prepare three dishes of non-hassle meal. We had meatballs, sausages with eggs(no pun intended) and ABC soup. It was cool as I got the chance to catch up with the going ons of Alan as I indulge myself in cooking. Okay fine, to be honest Alan did a fair share of cooking too. Why don't I portray that in a thousand words for you hehe...

"lui sat sau" English translation "female assassin" haha just kidding...

Looks like someone's "cooking" up a storm...

This short clip is dedicated to you Jim if you ever miss mum's cooking...

At last, a wholesome meal...

Doesn't this remind you of Chicken Little? Okay, not exactly little but still...

I headed home at about 8.30pm to prepare myself for Batu Ferringhi with Kel and Nick. Thanks Alan for a terrific afternoon. Started our journey to Batu Ferringhi at about 10.00pm. Manage to get myself a MIKA cd that I’ll feature in my next post. Oh, and I coincidently bump into my childhood crush *blush*. As usual, life wouldn't be complete without FOOD so we headed off to Sri Ananda Bahwan which was the Indian restaurant I mention in my previous post that I happened to forget the name. It's situated just opposite the main road where Crown Jewel is for those who might be interested. One thing for sure, lots of Xaverians seem to frequent this place.

Sri Ananda Bahwan...

...the patrons

As we were about to leave, the rain started pouring. I've always love to take rides in a car when it's raining I don't know why, all I know is it was another great day...

Fire+Water =Barbeque+Steamboat

Okay so this is my second official post for this blog. Still figuring the concept that I want for this blog. I know... it's a blog and I'm supposed to write what ever I want but I like to classify stuff. Yes, I'm a "classification freak"... if that word exists. Anyway, being who I am, I was seriously thinking of dedicating a whole blog to food for a simple reason... I love to eat! That means I'll have to create another blog and that is kind of a crazy thing to do since I just started blogging here right? So after some rationalizing, I decided to go with labels for now until I am sure that I have enough commitment to maintain another blog.

Alright, so yesterday was pretty much the most happening day since I came home. Went out with Al, Kel and Nick. I must say it was kind of a random outing starting from me trying to satisfy my urge for barbeque steamboat. So we went out at about 6.30pm and headed off to Nagore Road. Decided to dine at the upper floor this time and was kind of freaky because the floor was practically like Kel said and I quote "the wooden flooring in Al's house" which practically shook when someone walks on it. No hard feelings! Food I must say was a let down. It just doesn't taste as nice as it was last time. I guess it's a trend that when a place becomes famous and flooded with hungry pigs, that would be us, their food starts to suck! So the equation for that would be Quantity>Quality. Having said that, I still had a great time because I get to hang around with my "extended family".

That's Nic with that gaga look, Al trying hard to suck it in for a beautiful picture and of course Kel, who's mum runs a maid agency now. So with the money flowing in, you know where the smile came from lol..

Messy as usual...

Caught in the act!

Was planning to go back home but was too early therefore headed for Gurney Plaza but upon reaching we changed our mind and decided to go for the beach. Met some ex-Xaverians there. Then we cut short our plan to go for some drinks at FACES but we changed our plans again and ended up at K. Raw's house. Kel was grumbling all the way about meeting Miss P so we called her out for supper in an Indian restaurant which the name sounds so complicated that I forgot about it but what I will not forget is the great food they serve and the ambience. Definitely worth a second visit. It was nice to meet up with Miss P after such a long time. At last we called it a night and miraculously with all those activities, I reached home before 12am. Mum must be proud of me lol...

I'm back again woohoo... After a long drought I finally decided that it's time for a new start. Why now? Actually, I've been wanting to start a new blog as soon as I ended my previous short lived blog but I felt that I needed something to change in my life before I embark on this new journey. If you noticed, this blog was actually created at the end of December 2006 but I held back from blogging until now. Enough about that, the reason I started blogging again is because I've been going through some friends blogs this few days and getting to know some updates on their lives especially those who are abroad as well as around and it just hits me that maybe I could do my part by sharing some of my life too if not, I'm also doing myself a favour by keeping an archive of bits and pieces of my life for memory sake. So keep ya blogs updated! Basically, I'm going to blog about anything if possible, everything... about my life that is. I believe that everyone sees life differently so this is life... from my perspective. Enjoy!
